Scar Treatment
If you’re self-conscious about scarring caused by acne, surgery, or a traumatic injury, CaloSpa® Rejuvenation Center offers safe, effective, state-of-the-art scar treatments for patients in Louisville, Lexington, and surrounding areas of Kentucky, as well as Floyds Knobs, Indiana. Our expert team can recommend the best scar treatment to address various types of scars, helping you achieve smoother, more evenly toned skin.
Acne Scars
Acne scars are a common concern for many of our patients. These scars can persist long after active acne has cleared, affecting self-esteem and skin texture.
Types of Acne Scars
- Atrophic (depressed) scars, such as ice pick, boxcar, and rolling scars
- Hypertrophic (raised) scars
Causes of Acne Scarring
As your acne clears, your skin begins to heal over the next week or so. The skin often heals without leaving a trace of the blemish. However, you may be more likely to develop acne scars when you:
- Have deep acne, such as an acne cyst or nodule, which can cause intense inflammation in the skin
- Pick, pop, squeeze, or scratch active acne, which increases inflammation
- Have a close relative who developed acne scars
Acne Scar Treatment Options
Atrophic scars, such as boxcar, ice pick, and rolling scars, typically require a two-stage treatment approach. The first stage reduces the scar’s depth, creating a smoother, more level surface. Initial treatment options include:
- Laser treatments
- Chemical peels
- Microneedling
- Dermal fillers
Next, we reduce skin discoloration using a specialized micropigmentation technique called scar camouflage.

Other Types of Scars
In addition to acne scars, we treat various types of scars resulting from different causes:
- Surgical scars
- Burn scars
- Keloid scars
- Wound scars
We tailor our scar treatment to your unique needs, which may require combining therapies for optimal results.
What Are the Best Scar Treatment Options?
The best way to minimize a scar’s appearance depends on its type, severity, and location. The best acne scar treatment, for instance, may not be the best treatment for scars caused by a burn.
Lasers
ClearSilk®: A gentle laser treatment that heats deep skin layers to rejuvenate from within.
Forever Young BBL®: This light therapy reduces inflammation and redness while stimulating collagen production.
HALO®: A hybrid laser combining two laser wavelengths to treat the skin’s surface and deeper layers.
Hollywood Peel: The Spectra laser gently resurfaces the skin with no downtime.
Laser Skin Resurfacing: Our Contour TRL™ laser is a versatile platform for mild to aggressive skin resurfacing that improves the scar’s texture and appearance.
Chemical Peels
VI Peel: Rejuvenates skin with visible results in as little as 7 days.
Microneedling
RF Microneedling: Combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to remodel skin and rebuild collagen. We offer INFINI™, Genius™, and Morepheus8 radiofrequency microneedling and Scarlet SRF microneedling treatments.
Injectable fillers improve the appearance of depressed scars. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers such as JUVÉDERM and Restylane products produce immediate results. Sculptra Aesthetic stimulates collagen production, gradually delivering results that last up to 2 years.
Prism Red Light Therapy
The Prism Light Pod uses 2 red light wavelengths and a near-infrared light wavelength to jump-start the skin’s healing process and reduce inflammation in scarred areas.
Topical Skincare Products
Medical-grade products help heal and improve the appearance of scarred skin.
Surgical Scar Revision
For severe scarring, we recommend surgical revision.
Combining Treatments
Our providers often find that combining scar treatments produces superior results. This approach allows us to address various aspects of scarring while enhancing overall effectiveness and potentially reducing treatment time.

What Is Micropigmentation for Scar Camouflage?
Although addressing the skin’s texture with one or more of the above treatments smooths the skin, discoloration may linger. Micropigmentation treatments implant custom-matched pigment into the skin, seamlessly concealing scars from surgeries, injuries, burns, stretch marks, or conditions like vitiligo. With proper aftercare—such as avoiding sun exposure and keeping the area hydrated—the results are long-lasting, with occasional touch-ups to maintain their effectiveness.
